1. Make sure that you are well-familiarized with the plants that you have in mind for harvesting. These wild foods are exquisite enough to not be mistaken for other plants. But do not expect the same from those which belong to the parsley family. It is considered one of the most poisonous among plants.

2. Make sure that your chosen plants are not those of the rare species.

3. Acquire plants that are scattered abundantly in the area. Do not ever attempt to abuse what mother earth supplies us.

4. Make sure that your chosen plants for harvesting are not affected with any kind of pesticide or fertilizers. You must be extra careful with those found in the sides of the farm fields, parks, lawns, road sides, etc.

5. If you will happen to gather plants from a private owned property, then you must make sure that you asked for permission.

6. Make sure that you wear the proper clothes especially if you will encounter some nettles or parsnips. These are potent irritants to the skin which you should be well aware of. The wild parsnips can be seen in some fields and roadsides especially in the upper Midwest. These can cause you serious skin problems in the form of rashes.

7. Only get the amount you will use.

8. Always be grateful for what you harvested. You must not forget to acknowledge that plants are God’s gifts who is the Master Creator of everything. So everything that His hands have done should be treated with utmost care and gratitude.
