Different Forms of Dandelion Recipes

The Dandelion herb is not only edible but rich nutritional powerhouse; it can be consumed in various forms and can be used as a base in different recipes.

The natural Dandelion has immense potential in both as food and as medicine. We will discuss on the procedures and ways to prepare different Dandelion recipes which will enable to choose the best for any individual and absorb their natural nutritional sources.

Dandelion Soup Cream:

Ingredients to kept ready are

• 2 cups of dandelion chopped leaves
• 1 cup of flower petals of dandelion
• 1 cup of buds of dandelion
• ½ tbsp. of olive oil (butter as an alternative)
• ½ cup of chopped onions ( or leeks)
• 3 minced garlic cloves
• 2 cups of water
• 1 cup of creamy heavy
• 1 teaspoon of salt

Procedure to be followed

• Boil the leaves of dandelion gently in sufficient water and pour the bitter water, do the same again.
• Use heavy-bottom pot used for soup, sauté leeks and the garlic in olive oil or butter until tender.
• Now pour 2 cups of water to it and simmer it for about 45 minutes.
• Then add the cream and simmer again for few more minutes.

The recipe is ready, flower petals to garnish.

Dandelion and Pumpkin Soup:

Ingredients to kept ready are

• Bring a handful of Dandelion greens, chop them well to bite size, boil them gently and pour off the bitter water, do this until the bitterness is gone and keep it ready.
• Bring one pumpkin and boil it until it becomes tender so that a knife can easily go through it and keep to ready.
• One medium to large onion well chopped
• Six minced cloves of garlic
• Two tablespoons of olive oil or butter
• Six cups of water
• Four cups of the above pumpkin well mashed
• One cup of heavy cream
• Half teaspoon of nutmeg
• 1 ½ teaspoon of salt

Procedure to be followed

• Souse the garlic and onion in heavy-bottom pot.
• Now pour 6 cups of water, add dandelion chopped greens to it and add mashed pumpkin.
• Mix them well, add salt if necessary and simmer it for half hour.
The recipe is ready but you need to add heavy cream and nutmeg just before serving.

Dandelion Egg Salad:

Ingredients to kept ready are

• Four boiled eggs
• Chopped and boiled dandelion greens - ¾ cup
• One teaspoon horseradish
• One tablespoon chives (fresh)
• Half cup mayonnaise

Procedure to be followed

• Take the boiled eggs and chop them coarsely.
• Dandelion greens, fresh chives and horseradish are to mixed well
• Put the mayonnaise to the mixture and mix once again.
The recipe is ready for serving.

Dandelion Pasta Salad:

This is a very simple recipe and you can very easily make this salad all by yourself. For making this healthy pasta salad, all you will need is cooked pasta of 3 cups, drained, diced tomato of just one and half cup, one cup of pre-cooked dandelion green, minced onions of just 2 tablespoon, eight sliced olives, vinegar nearly 2 tablespoon, Olive oil of 1 tablespoon and salt as required.

Split-Pea dandelion bud soup

The basic requirements which is needed for making this soup is split peas of one cup, salt of one tsp and nearly 6 cups of water. Now let us see the procedure.

• Simmer the split peas for approximately one and a half to two hour as needed.
• Now fry up 2 tablespoon of butter, chopped onion of half cup, mined cloves and garlic, sliced thin celery of half a cup, dandelions buds of nearly 2 cups, and with this add half cup of basil, sage and savory.
• Add the split tea soup with this cooked item and again simmer slowly for another half an hour.
• Finally add some milk, some cubes of cheese before serving.
You can also use dandelion blossom petals for garnishing this healthy soup.

Blossom Dandelion Syrup:

Ingredients to kept ready are

• One quart of dandelion flowers
• Four cups of water
• Half chopped lemon or orange

Procedure to be followed

• Put water and blossoms in a jar
• Boil gently then let it cool and cover and let it sit for a night
• On the following say strain and squeeze liquid out of flowers
• Now add the chopped citrus and sugar
• Simmer it until think honey like quality is achieved
• Then can it in jars
The recipe is ready now.

Dandelion Baklava:

Ingredients to kept ready are

• Half box fillo leaves
• One butter stick
• Two cups of finely chopped walnuts or hickory nuts
• One teaspoon sugar
• Half teaspoon of cinnamon
• Half teaspoon of nutmeg
• Three-Fourth cup Dandelion Blossom syrup

Procedure to be followed

• Mix nuts, sugar and slices
• Melt the stick butter
• Butter a pan and lay eight sheets with buttering them all with a brush
• Sprinkle half of nut mixture evenly on every layer
• Carefully cut the layers into 30 squares and bake for about half hour at 375 in the oven.
• Remove them from oven and pour the Dandelion Blossoms which is at room temperature on the hot baklava.

Dandelion Blossom Cake:

Ingredients to kept ready are

• Two cups flour
• Two teaspoons baking powder
• One-Half cup baking soda
• One teaspoon salt
• One cup sugar
• One cup Dandelion Blossom syrup
• 1 ½ cups of oil
• Four eggs
• Two cups of Dandelion blossom petals
• One can crushed pineapple
• Half cup walnuts
• Half cup coconut

Procedure to be followed

• Sift the dry ingredients.
• Add sugar, dandelion syrup, oil and eggs in a bowl and beat together to become creamy.
• Add walnuts, coconut and pineapple to that and mix well.
• Add dry ingredients and mix well till it becomes blended
• Add some butter into a cake pan and bake for about forty minutes at about 350 in oven.

Dandelion blossom Pancakes:

For making these pancakes all you will need are:

• 1 cup each of white flour and cornmeal
• Salt just one teaspoonful or as needed
• Baking soda around 2 teaspoon
• Take a couple eggs and oil measuring one quarter of a cup
Dandelion Blossom syrup of half cup
• Just 2 cups of milk and Dandelion blossom petals for garnishing

The steps are very simple. Let us see the actual practical recipe:

• Add all dry ingredients in a bowl and mix them properly followed by the proper mixing of all the wet items together. Pancakes mixtures should be thin, but not over thin. So to increase the fluidity add some milk and to decrease fluidity add some flour and adjust the thickness accordingly.
• Now when the mixture is ready, cook it on oiled grill
• Finally serve with butter and dandelion petals as toppings.

Dandelion Cornbread:

For preparing the cornbread the basic which should be kept near hand are:

• 1 cup each of cornmeal and white flour
• 2 teaspoon of baking powder and a three - fourth cup of baking soda
• Salt just one teaspoonful or as needed
• A pair of eggs
Dandelion Blossom syrup of half cup
• Quarter cup of oil
• Milk of just a cup and some dandelion petals for garnishing

Let us see the process of making it:

Mix the dry components first and mix it with other ingredients and mingle till the mixture becomes smooth. Now put the oil on a frying pan and keeping baking for nearly 25 minutes at 375 degrees Celsius. Garnish with butter and dandelion blossom syrup and serve hot.

Dandelion Chai:

Ingredients to kept ready are

• One cup roasted Dandelion root
• Six tablespoon Fennel or Anise seeds.
• About 36 Cardamom pods (green)
• Cloves – 72
• Six sticks Cinnamon
• Dry ginger root – 2 tablespoons
• Black peppercorns – 1 ½ tablespoons
• Bay leaves - 12

Procedure to be followed

• For each water cup add one tablespoon tea mixture.
• Simmer it for about five minutes and steep it for about ten minutes
• For every cup add one tablespoon honey
• Add two tablespoons milk for every cup of cream
• Warm before serving.

Dandelion Chai2:

The difference between the first recipe of dandelion chai and this one is that this one is not that spicy and chocolatier than the previous one and hence must be preferred in terms of taste by many. We just need < a href= "http://www.prodigalgardens.info/dandelion%20coffee.htm"> roasted Dandelion root of 2 cups, Cinnamon bark, Ginger root, Cardamom seeds, star Anise of just half a cup. Apart from these we may need honey and milk as needed. The procedure is very much similar to the first recipe itself.

Dandelion Vinaigrette:

For making this recipe you first of all need some pre-made dandelion products but the finished recipes can be guaranteed to be extremely delicious. Let us see the basic ingredients needed.

• One and a half cup of olive oil

• Some cloves and garlic and salt. The measure should be decided as per the requirement.

Warm Winter Spice Tea:

Ingredients to kept ready are

• One cup roasted Dandelion root
• Half cup dry orange peel.
• Half cup of Cinnamon bark
• Dry Ginger root – three-fourth cup

Procedure to be followed

• Add one tablespoon of the mixture of above per cup of water.
• Simmer it for ten to fifteen minutes.
• Add some honey to sweeten it ( optional)

Roasted Dandelion Root Coffee Ice Cream:

Ingredients to kept ready are

• Heavy ice cream – 2 ½ cups
• Half-and-half – 1 ½ cups.
• Sugar – 1 ½ cups
• Egg yolks - 5

Procedure to be followed

• Grind the roasted Dandelion root to powder
• Take a double boiler and add cream, sugar and half-and-half.
• Simmer it and stir to dissolve the sugar.
• Keeping at simmer add the powder of roasted dandelion roots and ensure not to boil.
• And leave them to steep for about 45 minutes.
• Discard the root material after thorough straining.
• Add the egg yolks in another pot and whisk, slowly add the dandelion root cream to it.
• Heat the whole of it gently until it gets into sauce thickness.
• Again strain it and let it chill in a fridge.
The special recipe is ready to serve.

Dandelion Mustard:

Making mustards at your home is really easy as unlike presumed. Prepare the herbal vinegar before time for making them “wild”. For making this dandelion mustard we have also used Dandelion Blossom syrup . Let us see the recipe in details. All you will need are:

• Yellow mustard seeds in just a cup
• Dandelion vinegar in just a cup and quarter
• Dandelion Blossom syrup of about half cup as already mentioned
• Fresh Pureed Dandelion green of just a cup
• Add minced cloves and garlic as needed.
• Salt as needed

The process of making this home – made mustard is really easy. First of all soak in the dandelion vinegar, the mustard seeds for overnight or several hours. After that add the rest of the ingredients and allow the mixture to sit for several days in a covered container. Mustard is ready for use. It can also be refrigerated and can be used for many months.
