The Exceptional Sumac Lemonade and Soda
Sumac lemonade is one descent, lemonade with a mine of exciting flavors; it’s the combination of sumac lemonade and carbonated soda water that we get the exciting sumac soda.
Sumac is best harvested in August, thou it can be found during other months. When harvested sumac is bright red and it is these that is used to make sumac lemonade. Sumac is also highly nutritious especially in vitamin c, and can help prevent against some common ailments.
Sumac lemonade
The bright red sumac harvested is exactly what is used to make this lemonade. This lemonade is made in cold water to preserve its exceptional high content of vitamin C.
Ingredients
The main ingredient is 15- 20 heads of sumac or 8 cups of sumac berries. Other ingredients are:
1 gallon of cold water
2 cups sugar
Preparations
1.) Sumac heads or berries are placed in a large bowl or pot.
2.) Cold water is then poured over them to cover them, and a weighted plate is set to hold them under the water.
3.) Let soak like this for several hours or overnight.
4.) Then strain using cheese cloth or a cotton bandana.
5.) Add 2 cups sugar and stir until sugar is dissolved.
6.) Chill and serve.
7.) 1 cup of honey to sweeten, preferably use sugar because honey tends to dominate the flavor of the sumac, while sugar enhances.( This step is OPTIONAL.)
Sumac soda
To make your own sumac sodas simply buy carbonated water in the liquor section of the grocery store.
Ingredients
1 quart Sumac lemonade
1 quart carbonated soda water
Preparation
The sumac lemonade is mixed with carbonated water.
If you want, you may sweeten it to taste.
