Cough Syrup from Wild Cherry
The cough syrup from Wild Cherry can be easily prepared at home. Very effective in curing cough, the formula to prepare this syrup is actually based on an ancient recipe obtained in the National Formulary known as “Compound white pine syrup” which is also called “Syrupus Pini Albae Compositus”. The main constituents needed to make this syrup are the Poplar bark, Wild Cherry bark and bark of white pine and these all constituents are easily available in local markets. Hence this is a herbal syrup which also minimizes its chances of producing any side-effects to the person taking it. The additional components required for the preparation can be bought from any company that deals in herb supplies. The amounts of various barks and roots needed to make cough syrup from wild cherry are listed below:
Wild cherry bark-1/2 a cup
Osha root-1/2 a cup
Poplar bark-1/4 a cup
Bark of White pine -1/2 a cup
Bloodroot-1 Tbsp
Below are the steps that are required to be followed to prepare cough syrup from Wild cherry:
1. First of all, all different types of barks and roots enlisted above should be mixed together properly.
2. After the barks and roots have been mixed properly, boil this in water of about 2 quarts until it reduces to around half the amount of liquid.
3. Now, the mixture of roots and barks also known as the herb material should be drained out from the liquid.
At this juncture, one can expect to obtain a fluid of around 1 quart which will be strong-tasting, highly-concentrated beverage commonly known as a decoction.
4. Now this beverage or decoction should be poured into a dirt-free cooking pan and following elements should be added.
Four cups of sugar-to introduce the sweet content in the syrup so that it can be drinkable.
Two tsp of almond extract-so that the syrup not only helps in the treatment of cough but also turns out to be healthy and nutritious for body.
2 cups of fruit juice concentrate
(An important thing to remember here is that one can use wild juices like Black Raspberry juice , Wild Cherry juice or Elderberry juice which happens to be anti-viral for the distillate. One can also go for cold juice concentrates or various other types of concentrates that are available in markets.
5. The whole extract should now be heated gently until it condenses into thick, delectable, rich syrup.
The cough syrup from wild cherry is now ready. It should be kept in mind that the amount of syrup required to be taken by children and adults is different which happens to be 1 tsp for the former and 1 Tbsp for the latter.
